Nevada City - Graniteville - Bowman Lake Snow Wheeling Weekend Before New Years
Let's go play in the snow and have some fun. I don't know how far into Bowman Lake we can make it, but if we make it, I will probably camp over night. I will be leaving early enough so that those who just want do a day trip can make it back out with no need to freeze in camp. Average temps for Bowman lake are 23/45 for low/high, but could get considerable colder.
Meet in Nevada City for gas/late breakfast and leave around 10? Anyone know a good place to meet in Nevada City? Date to be determined by who wants to go...possible dates are 12/29 to 12/31.
I only have a stock truck, so don't worry that you can't keep up in the snow. We'll play it by ear and see how far we get. Those with better snow rigs can continue on and play in the deeper snow.
I will bring my large 2-burner camp-chef stove, so we can cook a hot lunch and make hot beverages.

I'd be down to take part in this trip. I know that area really well. You can actually make it from Nevada city to bowman lake without touching pavement for the most part. And there is a lot of cool historic stuff like mines and the ghost town of North Bloomfield.

I would like to get 3 or 4 trucks to show up for safety, but I would still like to go. With all these storms, there is no hope of making Bowman lake, but it is still a beautiful drive and worth going for the scenery and the adventure. They probably got at least 6 feet of new snow since I originally posted this.
So, yes, it's still a go. All are welcome to join. Looks like Sunday is the day, since that's when Uly can make it. I will post meeting place and time by Wednesday.

Let's meet at the Safeway (867 Sutton Way, Grass Valley)...take the Brunswick exit, turn right, and it is on the left at the next intersection. There is also a Starbucks, and a bakery there. Leave there between 10AM and 10:15, get gas, and reform ranks at the Yuba river on N. Bloomfield Rd. To get to N. Bloomfield, go N. on 20/49, then turn left to stay on 49 (20 goes straight). N. Bloomfield is the second right. It winds around for quite awhile and then crosses the Yuba river (there is a bridge). We pretty much stay on that road all day, but it changes name to Graniteville Rd.
I'll be monitoring 146.460 if anyone has a 2m ham radio.
