FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Not exactly a trail run, but it feels really strange to think that on January 1, I've already had my first trip to the "east side" for 2012.  Something that usually doesn't happen until early summer.

Ellery Lake, just east of YNP

The following are from a frozen over Tenaya Lake.  It usually has 4-6 feet of snow on it this time of year, and you have to ski (yeah, snow ski) to get here.

Just returning with gear..not a person.

We need SNOW!!!! Great Pics!

It has been a DRY season so far...

Thanks for the pics! Might have to take a run up there soon, hope the snow does come.

great photos! thanks for the update. heading over to Bodie to take some photos before full closure of the pass is enticing.

When are you going?

hmm, well if this is indeed the last weekend, then i won't be able to make it. still would not mind heading out there sometime during the winter provided there's not too much snow on the ground. would make for some great photos.

Yeah... I wouldn't mind going back up to Masonic... There's a cool abandoned mine up there that would make a great subject for some timelapses and video.

it's good time of the year, bears are sleeping...

Reminds me of growing up in Conn.. and some bloody hockey games.

Think I'll head up thata way sometime in the next few days.

I hear that this is the last weekend 120 will be open ... rumor is it'll close, snow or no snow, due to budget issues ... and to keep someone from falling in to Tenaya Lake if the warm weather keeps up.

So ... go this weekend!

Headed over early Saturday AM just cuz!

Still no rumors from park staff about closing the road (just from bloggers-don't know their sources). It was announced that MLK weekend will be free. FYI, the Tioga side entrance is open but the station itself is boarded up, so no payment in or out there. I'm out of the park for the weekend, but if I hear more about closing, I will post up. We are planning on bringing stock for horse/mule rides in Yose Valley starting next weekend (tentative). Badger Pass still closed. We need a good strong storm to open. Glacier Point Road all the way to GP is also open.
