So while I had my front skid plate removed i noticed a little nozzle at the bottom of the radiator...is changing the coolant as easy as turning on that nozzle?

If so do you need to help it out any...ie pressurize it with air, or flush it out with a garden hose?

Yep, that easy. I haven't done a complete drain yet but I will use the hose method when I do.
Sorry I missed you at High Sierra.
you may have to warm up the FJ for the thermostat to open up so the block will drain
Yes you can drain the coolent from the radiator but you will not get everything out of the block.. Only way to do that is flush it out.. Now when I have done this on older cars I would normally handle this when I changed out a water pump. With the water pump gone its very easy to flush ou tthe block.

This most likely will not be nessary in our FJ since they are stil less than 5 years old.. (but mine is getting close)..

Yep, exactly what boss said. Just turn the twist and the coolant will drain out. You won't get all of the coolant because there is some in the engine still. Oh, and I recommend that you do not use water from the hose. Just drain everything and fill it back up from the hole on top of the radiator. It should bubble up as you fill it so pour slowly and continue until it is full. When you are all done, make sure your coolant level is normal (I like to start the engine for a minute before filling to "F").

Good luck!

Thanks for all the tips.

I noticed the stock coolant is red-pink.  Can I use Prestone (aka glow-green stuff)?

I was told that Toyotas require the red-pink coolant.  That's why I am asking such a silly question.

use the Toyota stuff
There are two types that Toyota makes....getbthe extra long life one.

is this something that I need to get directly from Toyota dealers?
