NorCal FJs

FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Leonie (TOE 4x4) , Paul (PB'nFJ) and I (DivnGirl) just completed this 2-day, 16-hour certification course this past weekend.  As an educator, I have been First Aid & CPR certified on and off throughout my career.  This course is NOT your standard first aid course.  Instead it truly gives you knowledge and skills that may one day save a life in the back country.

The instructor, Kristina Hall has a business, where she educates, trains and certifies folks in CPR and Wilderness & Remote First Aid. The WFA is especially important to know while traveling for extended periods in the back country--either via foot, bicycle, motorcycle or car.  What I really loved about this experience was that Kristina herself is a seasoned wheeler.

She works in partnership with the American Red Cross--is an authorized Instructor and Instructor Trainer and teaches CPR and Wilderness and Remote First Aid Training courses that can certify participants for 2 years with the American Red Cross.

Some of the things learned are patient assessment, head, neck and spine injuries, wound management, splinting techniques and a whole lot of other very important information for back country travelers. This is a very fun and informative class, with lots of hands on and realistic scenarios. And you get certified for 2 years!

Having posted up on my FB, a few FJC folks have already shown interest in becoming certified.  If you are also interested, post up.  Please only post up if seriously interested...as in "yes, I will take the class, assuming I can make the date and afford the fee."  Her schedule is super packed and we are running out of time as prime wheeling season will be starting up soon.

UPDATE 3/10/11

It looks like a date is set for a NorCal FJC class...April 9th and 10th.  Boss is working on securing a location at Hollister Hills at this time.  If interested, you can post up here and/or PM Kristina Hall.  Right now, we have 6 possibly 7 interested folks.  She needs a minimum of 6 to hold the class.

For those also interested in getting CPR certified, I know Kristina is probably going to do a separate class for that at a later date.

Good, maybe the stitching lessons could be done in the future if I'll pass this one.

As I said, I am very interested (possibly 2x, if we find how to deal with the infant) but it would be good to know the price range, assuming we can form that 12-14 person class. I am willing to travel, actually I wouldn't mind if the class was held in a place I've never been before.

This sounds like a fun class to attend..

Depending on when we will have the class I am in..

I would be interested if you have one in Sacto and the price is right :-). Looking forward to hearing more details.
She is holding one in the Sacto area April 16-17 weekend.  PM her.

Ok--We are scheduling a class in the Bay Area for April 9th & 10th and Sacramento for April 16th & 17th.  PM me if you are interested!

Kristina

Bump for a few more participants to meet the class size minimum of 6.

Check out the updates in the OP.

Please add me to the list, I will definitely attend as long as the price is manageable.

I'm new to this particular FJ Forum, I hadn't made a point of joining because I don't exactly live in NorCal (I'm a central coaster from down in Santa Maria). But this class sounds perfect so in to the fray I go. In addition to wheeling my FJ, I backpack about twice a month and lead groups of volunteers on trail maintence trips for the Forest Service.

Thanks,  Nathan

Welcome aboard!  I'll add you to the list. We have folks for NorCal, SoCal, CentralCal, and a bunch from outside Cali.  All are welcome!

Hi Nate,

My name is Kristina and I will be holding the wilderness First Aid class.

Where are you located at?  This sounds like a perfect class for you as we cover elements for all backcountry travel using the resources that you have with you.

Send me an email and I can shoot you all the details.

Yes! And I actually have a couple  of more--a couple of folks who couldn't make it to the March training. This class is really fun with a variety of diverse folks that bring great stories and experiences to the table! Let's keep it rolling!

Friday BUMP.

If all who showed interest end up registering, it looks like we have enough to hold the class.  Please friend then PM Kristina if you showed interest.

I just signed up another one! The class is for a sure a go--tell your friends and let's get a few more--it really helps to have more folks for the BEAM exercise :))
