Agreed. But the FRS is a good backup to have. My advice, for what they cost, is to just get the most expensive model.

HAM, definitely.

I have portable FRS and CB and have a mobile HAM radio installed in the vehicle. The HAM is by far the easiest to understand.

As Boss said though it requires a bit more commitment of time and funds. If HAM is not an option, go for a CB.

yeah and a good mobile ham unit is around $300
