FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Hi, I was wondering what could be a better solution for water storage while out on a small expedition. Right now what I do is:

- I freeze some 1gal bottles, the ones that cost about 1$ at the store. I put those in the cooler, to help keep it cold.

- I keep some 1gal bottles behind the driver' seat

While this system kinda works, I end up with several empty bottles, each gallon costs me a dollar, it's not easy to drink out of a 1gal bottle, etc.

There must be some better way to store water on a camping trip!

What about one of the water storage solutions from Frontrunner.

Hi! I saw that website while searching. The most interesting for me is the bladder solution, even if it seems pricey at 85$ (and in any case it's not available as of now). The "floor"solution I've read it does not adapt too well to the FJ, but I should do more research.

Thanks!

Apparently on the "Expedition Portal" they say this floor solution is too wide for the FJ :(

If you want to keep it cheap you can get some of the blue jerry cans. hold a good amount of water.

Well my main issue here is convenience. I want something that has its own place inside the vehicle, does not move around, I can always find, and maybe it's not too heavy. It has to be convenient.

If you had a roof rack, strapping Jerry cans up top and running a hose and spigot would give you the access and yet you reserve cabin space for things like the baby. J/k. Alessio, good to see you are still around.

:)

Well but those cans are all but convenient. And the baby does not need too much space, really :)

For drinking while driving on longer trips I've been hanging a CamelBak Unbottle from my headrest.

These from Platypus look nice for storage...

something for your vino...

Have you ever been to Redwood Trading Post? www.redwoodtradingpost.com, close to where you live, they have a good selection of camping gear.

If you want to go custom, you can have a waterbed manufacturer make you a bladder any size you want. Then build a box to protect it.

Yes I've been there but when there are so many choices I always "freeze" and cannot buy. I am the opposite of a "impulse buyer". An advice from somebody that is happy with his solution would mean a lot to me.

Thanks for the links. The one about wine is wonderful ;) I would have never thought of anything like that!

Another idea is to find an RV water tank the right size to mount between the frame rails in the rear.

No, I am going to put there a gas aux tank. The size of the regular tank in the FJ prevents any serious overlanding ;)

There is a Man-a-Fre aux gas tank sitting at Boztec just waiting for someone to buy
