FJ Cruisers of Northern California

I've heard a lot about Slickrock Trail and am wondering whether anyone plans a run to there in the near future. I've never been but would like to go. I do have some questions, though.

What is the trail rated in terms of difficulty?

I'm running stock, with pontoons and no lift right now. Can this trail be run with pontoons or are sliders a must before making the run?

Is there any other characteristic a newbie should know before running this trail?

TIA,

Mike

I'd Like to do Slickrock this coming summer.  I think the trail is pretty well snowed in now.

If you want more info on good Norcal trail (with ratings), you should check the TTORA site.

I'm with you, if I'm able to modify my FJ a bit.

Hey Mike,

Steve (Tater) has his 2010 Slickrock video in the video section.  It's one of the 'featured' videos.  I did it last year for the first time.  It was definitely a challenge...especially the last obstacle.  Those scraps on my sliders came from that last obstacle...as are some on my Bud Builts....and all that with my lift and 33's.

Beautiful scenery though!

Hey Trish,

Steve's video is great and informative. As they say, a picture's worth a thousand words (and video is even better)!!

I will definitely pick up some sliders before summer~but not sure re tires. I just picked up some BFG All Terrains, LT 265/70/r17's, which are smaller than your 33's.

i believe it is rated a 5-6, but not certain.

you can do it stock provided you are a skilled driver and/or have good spotters. your pontoons will get mangled. C4B ran it stock without sliders/pontoons and came out of it rather unscathed outside of bent up stock skids, but he had some experience and a good spotter (daPitbull).

being a newbie, i would definitely go with someone who knows the trail. do not do it alone or in one truck.

lastly, keep in mind that all trails change. last year, there was a small boulder on the final obstacle that made things difficult for lifted FJCs. a stock FJC definitely would have had issues if not forced to turn back.

for more info, check out the Slick Rock trail description on this site.

33's and some sliders... a locker would help.. atrac will do just fine tho. The hardest part is at the end. Theres a easier line at the end, but overall not too hard. We run Deer Valley and then we hit Slick Rock and then head home via hwy 4. My two favorite trails!!!
It can bedone stock but as tater said it highly depends on driver skill and to some degree willingness to take some scrapes and bruises. You'll definately need a spotter being stock though. One of the best trailz IMO.
Holy crap did you floor that? :-D
yeah, I was pissed off at the heckler and was hoping to run him over.
Yo you have got to just tune those guys out.  They will make you go mad....... Ha ha

Thanks for the memories Mark.

This is a fun trail but don't go alone and the trail does change.
