FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Hello everyone.
I'm so excited to be back in a 4WD and couldn't be happier with my new (well 2010) FJ Cruiser. I drove a '99 Tacoma for about 12 years and was super sad to have to sell that one. I had 2 '99 Tacomas over that time. The first was a 4WD 4 cyl and the second was V6 Prerunner.
I have always loved Toyota rec vehicles. The Tacoma was such a solid truck I was nervous to move to something else.
After much research I decided to look into FJs. It was a done deal after the test drive. Sold. I got a great deal on it. The sales guys at the lot had no idea what a gem they had on their hands.

I'm not sure what all the packages available are but my new FJ (Coal) is 4WD (the 2WD is a waste of time in my opinion), has A-Trac, Locking Rear Diff, Track Off, and Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror with Back Up Camera & display.

I'm looking forward to exploring all the possibilities of the FJ and what everyone else has been doing.

Any suggestions on how or where to test out the 4WD gears to make sure everything is going ok? I don't want to wait till my first trip and hope everything goes well.

Any tips for a newbie to FJ would be great. I do have a few years exp with 4WD so the basic basic I have down.

Welcome man!

To test out the 4wd (in a parking lot):

- shift it into 4-high, look to see if the dash indicator comes on.

- shift to neutral

- shift to 4-low

- shift to drive, try turning a bit, you will notice if its working or not!

To get out of 4-low shift it back into neutral.

Welcome aboard. The best place to check it all out, from where you live, is Hollister Hills OHV Park. We have many functions there.

Thanks for the input guys.

@ Revoked - Thanks man. I definitely tried all that during the dealer test drive. HAD to make sure everything was in line at least. Those sales guys had no idea anything about the FJ. Guess it kinda worked in my favor.

@ Sonof40 - Thanks. Yeah I will definitely be looking out for upcoming events. I have been out to Hollister previously with my Tacoma. It's a nice park. Looking forward to getting back there.

I'm looking to crawl some curbs or something like that before a Hollister trip. Something super easy just to get a feel for the capabilities.

What did everyone here do? Lot to Hollister directly? Or was there some off-the-curb puddle slangin?

Hollister. i do not recommend hitting any dirt pile or field you see...doing so will only set back the 4x4 community.

btw, welcome aboard!

You're totally right. Definitely don't want to be THAT Dbag.

Hollister it is....

thx

Howdy!

Welcome!
