Ugly Sweater Party

Just saw this posting. I happened to be there 12/15, 16, 17, and came back today but managed to rip my sidewall open right before leaving and right after covering it with fresh mud. Spur of the moment decision to go due to fantastic weather forecast. Didn't see any FJs. Actually hardly saw anyone on four wheels. The weather was spectacular and even stayed pretty warm the last two nights due to cloud cover. That bottle jack is a joke! What is good to take for tire replacing?

Hi-lift jack.

Thanks Studovich. I had a brand new hi-lift jack I was going to use but a Jeep owner I asked to instruct me on how to use it said to use the bottle jack cause the hi-lift jack would lift the body not the wheel. I guess eventually it would have lifted the wheel too and probably faster and no doubt higher than the factory bottlejack.

yes it is faster but be careful as it doesn't take much to rock the rig off the high lift. I would keep a bottle jack and thick piece of wood as well.

Yes, I will, thanks.

not sure if your rig has sliders or bumpers yet but if you don't you cannot use a hi lift jack without tearing up the plastic.

Since my rig was rolled by the first owner and the rear bumper was fine but barely attached and pretty useless ut seemed to me I just took it off and stored it and can jack on the structure of the frame across the back or on the huge attachment I have slid in the slot in the 2" hitch I added. Not sure what the attachment is normlly for but it is 2 sq inches of solid steel, not hollow tube, as if that even is necessary. Of couse this will lift both rear wheels pretty equally. I had another issue today as I discovered. The center brass pin in the stem of one tire wasleaking air. Not sure if dirt from the mud got in there when I re inflated tires or what. I was very careful to try to avoid dirt getting in, but.... Any easy fix for this? WD 40 or better cap or stem replacement or?

The core of the tire valve stem could be loose or you might have dirt in there. You can get a tool to try and tighten it and see if that stops it, if not I would jack up the tire off the ground remove the valve, clean it and then re-install it.
