FJ Cruisers of Northern California

Do you know of anybody that has made a Coast to Coast on the FJ, visiting interesting places all along the way?

I'll buy some books (the "Fun-Treks" probably) about Utah and Colorado, but I do not think they have anything about more East that that. I guess I will have to go and ask on regional forums. I would like to visit Texas. I've heard many interesting things about that country.
That's an idea for a route. I've driven 40 from Cali to Tennessee and back twice. The route passes through some beautiful country and there are probably great off road tracks.
Check out "Trans-America Trail" - it's for dual sport motorcycles - uses dirt and gravel roads and jeep roads to create an off pavement trail from Northeastern Tennesee to the coast of Southern Oregon - from what I've seen most if not all would be do-able in an fj - 4741 miles off road.
Very interesting, thanks!!!
I emailed the guys from the Trans American Trail and asked them if FWD's ever run it and their response was, yes, absolutely. The guy said he's done it in his FWD several times. Cool, eh?

He must have received a couple of very similar emails in a very short amount of time then ;)

I also got the same answer.

My main issue if that it cannot be done West to East. But I could drive on regular roads to the East Coast and then drive back on this one. Another issue is the pretty steep price for the maps, I think it's a little less than 400USD.

I m about to do a 3000 mile trip from Marysville CA to Tampa FL in the FJ and a mini van with 2 toddlers and a crazy dog... does this count?
Why did you decide not to use the FJ?
Oh no, I'm driving the FJ. My wife is driving the mini van with my kids, and I have the dog. We are going to my sisters for awhile so we have to bring a lot of stuff.
I actually did the coast to coast with my then-girlfriend and my boxer in December and January. I had documented the trip on my Facebook, but wasnt involved with Norcal FJs at that time. We went from Marin County here to Hilton Head Island, SC, stopping in various National Parks and scenic byways along the route through NV, UT, CO, KS, MO, IL, KY, TN, GA and SC. Of course, almost 2000 miles of the trip out there was in the snow. Much fun. Arches NP was gorgeous. Stayed in Savannah area for 10 days, then to Alabama for 3 days, caught my Georgia Bulldogs in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis on Dec 31. Spent the new year crossing Arkansas and Oklahoma. On way back, detoured through Four Corners, Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. As we reached Mojave, CA, it started snowing really heavy and CHP blocked off hwy 58 to Bakersfield. So, in a bright Sun Fusion, a lil after dawn, i decided to take what i hoped was a gully free straight shot across the desert to the freeway. Got lucky. No gullies. No drawn attention from CHP. All in all, super enjoyed spending the holidays back home, and had an amazing road trip to boot.
Oh. In fact, my profile picture is from that road trip. Somewhere in NV or UT with a 3 ft icicle that had formed on my bicycle tire as i was cruising the 80. Haha
Thanks!
