FJ Cruisers of Northern California

While installing my new suspension this weekend. I noticed that I carry lots of sockets that may never be used. Is there a list of the metric sizes used on the FJ that are essential to the on trail repairs?

Better yet, what would make up a basic tool kit for trail repairs?

What do you carry in your rig for repairs?

10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, and 19mm.  can pretty much take apart the entire suspension with these sizes.  need some combo wrenches as well for these items for things like sway bar end links and rear shock top bolts.
21mm, 24mm, 35mm as well and a 5/8 spark plug socket
i just carry my whole tool kit, never know who'll meet on the trail asking for help, foreign or domestic.
I carry all of mine also. Dont know how to use them all but they are there if needed. Then I guess I would learn.
Also be aware that a lot of your after market parts might use different sizes (IE bolts for richocet skids are 13mm but stock bolts for stock skids are 12mm).  etc etc
I bring everything. Ask Grif what I mean about "everything'. As they say, " Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it". Something like that, LOL.
Pry bar and mallett.

All of the tools and most of the supplies fit in my tool bag (12" H x 16" L x 8" W).

I keep most of the tools organized in 2 tool rolls.

good list Marc! add a cordless drill and a few bits and I'd call that good!

That is a complete list!

Adding the cordless drill and bits would top it off.

How many of you have had to replace a broken front CV axle assembly on the trail? If you did, what extra tools did you need for the repairs?

Great information.
